Johana Suárez joined the NOTICIAS23 Dallas-Fort Worth News team in January 2016, as anchor of the 5 pm broadcast and from April 2017, as the DFW Digital Edition host. Johana has been a presenter and reporter for more than 16 years in television journalism. During her career she has been recognized with 13 Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, Northern California, and Texas. Her awards cover several categories, including: best news anchor, best public policy program, community affairs program moderator, documentary, best health history, historical and cultural segment, and continuous coverage. Her television career began at Univision in Las Vegas, Nevada, after which she served as news anchor for Univision Sacramento and moderator of California's only state-level political program, Voz y Voto. She recently served as a weekend news anchor in Los Angeles, a reporter and moderator of the community affairs program, Enfoque Los Angeles.

 

Throughout her journalistic career, Johana has interviewed a wide range of personalities and key players in state and national politics, including the Governor of California, Jerry Brown, the Secretary of Commerce, Carlos Gutiérrez, the Vice President of the nation for the Democratic Party, Tim Kaine, the treasurer of the United States, Rosario Marín, and the Ambassador of Mexico in the US, Arturo Sarukhán; in addition to leaders of civil rights and numerous artists.

 

In 2005, she accompanied the National Guard from California to New Orleans, reporting on the consequences and destruction of Hurricane Katrina. Her passion for issues that affect the community, such as politics, has led her to be recognized by the California Senate for her journalistic contributions, and to cover the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In June of 2016, she made several reports on immigration at the border, accompanying the Border Patrol, and which were recognized with a Lone Star Emmy.

 

Johana Suárez studied Social Communication at UNLV and began a Master's degree in International Relations and Conflict Resolution at LA American Public University, to improve her coverage of international affairs.

 

As a complement to her journalistic career, Johana has traveled extensively throughout Latin America, Asia and the Middle East.

 

In Peru she made a documentary about the "Master Plant" Ayahuasca, with which she won an Emmy. In Israel, Jordan, Egypt and Indonesia, she made special reports called "Travesías por el Medio Oriente" and "Mochileando con Johana" for which she was also recognized with the coveted award for journalistic excellence. Johana is married and has three children; Nicolás, Simón and Valentina.
